An Angel-Like White Tern 🐦

  |   Wildlife_Pics

It is the world’s only tree nesting seabird that does not build or modify a nest-like structure. The egg is laid onto a bare branch and the chick hatches in the most precarious position imaginable. This species is also sometimes called a fairy tern, and Charles Darwin himself best explained why: “It is a small, snow-white tern, which smoothly hovers at the distance of a few feet above one’s head, its large black eye scanning, with quiet curiosity, your expression. Little imagination is required to fancy that so light and delicate a body must be tenanted by some wandering fairy spirit."
